Tips and tricks that can help keep your bathroom sparkling when home cleaning. When you truly don’t have the time to deep clean your home, with busy careers, young children, or hectic lives; using some of these easy cleaning tips can help keep your home cleaning dirt-free and organized between professional visits from your maid service or residential cleaning company. This can help lower your total costs, keeping your house cleaning budget easily affordable, while maintaining a squeaky clean bathroom.
Start with a Clean Living Space
There are many things you can do in-between visits from your home cleaning service provider. The most important thing, in my opinion, is starting with a clean slate. I recommend investing in a whole home cleaning, from top to bottom, using a professional home cleaning service in Tampa. While an initial deep clean from a professional home cleaning service can be a little costly, it’s a great way to help get organized, plus maintaining a professionally cleaned home is much easier than starting from scratch.
Stay on Top of the Bathroom
The bathroom in any home seems to be a challenge for many families, especially those with young kids, or teenagers in the house. Think about it. The bathroom is used several times a day every day by every member of the family. Combine that with the fact that, in most homes, the bathroom is also the smallest room in the house, it’s no wonder that keeping an organized bathroom can be a challenge.
Let’s face it, the vast majority of our dirty work is done in the bathroom, so dirt and grime can build up quickly, even with regular home cleaning. In my experience, I have found that in most households, the bathroom is the biggest challenge in terms of maintaining order and cleanliness.
Here are some quick tips to maintain your bathroom in-between visits from your local maid service.
Keeping the Shower Clean is Easier than You Think!
Spray bathtub walls with a diluted bleach solution after every shower. The mixture should be 70% water and 30% bleach. Not only will this help to curb soap scum, but it will also help to prevent mold and mildew growth and keep the bathroom sparkling between professional cleaning services.A Good Wipe-Down Goes a Long Way
Make it a habit to wipe the bathroom counter and faucet once a day, at the end of the night. It only takes a minute, and a quick wipe-down dramatically affects the entire appearance of the bathroom. A quick spot clean on tile flooring, wiping away any water spots, also goes a long way in keeping the bathroom in check. Here is a neat trick – use a slice of lemon to wipe chrome faucets in the sink and tub. It does an excellent job at removing those pesky water spots!
Organization is Key
Stay organized! In our huge household, we hung an adjustable shower rod against the wall in the shower. Using plastic dollar store baskets and shower curtain rings, we hung one basket for each family member to store their personal items, such as shampoo, razors, soap, washcloths, etc. Not only did this help to stay organized, but the baskets are also incredibly easy to clean, and the system keeps soap scum and other gunk from collecting around the base of the bottles.
Keep counters as clutter-free as possible. With humidity and condensation, along with bathroom fans, dust and debris can collect and stick to every available surface, including the items left out on the countertop. I have found it much easier to keep my bathroom clean and tidy by storing most items using a basket system, under the sink, and in a closed cabinet above the toilet.
Keep Bathroom Funk at a Minimum
Keep dirty laundry out of the bathroom. It is tempting to place hampers in the bathroom because after all, it’s an easy place to throw your clothes before a shower. However, due to the humidity from hot showers, and the relatively small size of most bathrooms, a clothes hamper in the bathroom can actually contribute to unpleasant odors that may linger, even after cleaning.
Another neat little trick that my staff and I used on every residential cleaning job was designed to reduce bathroom odors. Simply pour a cup of liquid fabric softener into the toilet tank and forget about it! With each flush of the toilet, the scent will be released within the room. Unlike deodorant sprays, which can be overwhelming, the fabric softener provides the perfect subtle amount of fragrance, and will not damage septic systems or your toilet.
Keep Shower Doors Spotless
When I operated a professional house cleaning service, one of the tricks I used in the bathroom absolutely delighted my clients. After a good cleaning, I would spray glass shower doors with Rain X water repellent. While these days, the company actually has a version now to use on shower doors, I always used the regular version designed for windshields. Once a month, I would simply treat the doors once again. The product does an amazing job at keeping shower doors free from water stains and soap scum.
Use a dryer sheet to quickly remove soap scum. When operating a professional maid or cleaning service, efficiency is key. I taught my staff a ton of easy tips and tricks to make cleaning a simpler and faster process. Rather than waste time and effort using costly cleaners with sponges or scrub brushes, soap scum can easily be cleaned from bathtub surfaces and shower doors using a damp fabric softener dryer sheet. The best part? Used dryer sheets worked just as well as new ones! So, instead of throwing away your old dryer sheets, keep them in your cleaning arsenal.
When I was house cleaning professionally, I always had vinegar in my arsenal. When I arrived at a client’s house, I would tie a plastic bag full of vinegar onto the showerhead, completely submerging it in the vinegar, leaving it for about an hour as I cleaned in other areas of the home. When I finally got to the bathroom, I would simply remove the bag to find a beautiful and shiny showerhead, free of hard water stains or soap scum.
Vinegar, along with several Alka-Seltzer tablets, was also an effective way to unclog a slow or stopped-up drain. Simply drop 3 or 4 tablets down the drain, followed by a cup of vinegar. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes, then flush the drain with hot water. The clog is gone!
One final tip – After cleaning bathroom mirrors with glass cleaning and newspaper, wipe them down with a 1:1 mix of vinegar and water. Not only will the mirror shine, but it will also help keep your bathroom mirror fog-free for nearly a week, even with the hottest showers.
So, whether you need to maintain your home between professional house cleaning visits, or simply looking for housekeeping tips for squeaky clean living, I hope my bathroom tips come in handy. Next week, we will tackle laundry!
